Accountability and Transparency

CBP is committed to being a leader in law enforcement accountability and transparency by providing multiple ways to report incidents as well as timely, accurate and appropriate information regarding CBP-related deaths, use of force incidents and other critical incidents resulting in serious injuries. The Accountability and Transparency page provides the public with statements, policies, reports and other important information concerning critical incidents and related Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) reviews and investigations.

Statements

    • Three Fatalities in Arizona Motor Vehicle Accident | Speeches and Statements

      On August 7, 2021, at approximately 7:09 PM, a Jeep Liberty fled eastbound on State Road 86 (SR 86) after circumventing the primary inspection area of the U.S.

    • El Salvadorian migrant found in medical distress | Speeches and Statements

      On August 5, 2021, Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) responded to reported migrant traffic in a rural area approximately three miles southeast of Rio Grande City, TX, and approximately less than a mile north of the United States - Mexico border.  BPAs arrived at the location and discovered a male citizen from El Salvador in medical distress.  The BPAs immediately requested emergency medical services (EMS).  Due to the remoteness of the location where BPAs discovered the man, they transported him to a nearby location that was more easily accessible to EMS.

    • Tucson Sector Agent Dies in Collision | Speeches and Statements

      On July 31, 2021, at approximately 00:20 a.m., a Tucson Sector agent was involved in a head-on collision with a civilian motorist on State Route 86 near mile marker 128, outside of Sells, AZ.  Multiple emergency response agencies, including a life flight, were requested and responded to the scene.  A short time after the collision, both the agent and the sole occupant driver of the civilian vehicle were pronounced deceased. TOPD is leading the investigation into the accident. Further information to follow.
