Accountability and Transparency

CBP is committed to being a leader in law enforcement accountability and transparency by providing multiple ways to report incidents as well as timely, accurate and appropriate information regarding CBP-related deaths, use of force incidents and other critical incidents resulting in serious injuries. The Accountability and Transparency page provides the public with statements, policies, reports and other important information concerning critical incidents and related Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) reviews and investigations.

    • CBP releases body-worn camera footage from agent-involved shooting | National Media Release

      WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection released body-worn camera footage today from a deadly use of force incident which occurred near Las Cruces, New Mexico, on April 2, 2023. The video may be viewed on the Body-Worn Camera Video Releases page and the in-custody death statement on the incident can be found on the Newsroom page.

    • Man sustains head injury and dies after fall from international boundary barrier near San Ysidro, California Port of Entry | Speeches and Statements

      On January 27, 2023, at approximately 12:08 a.m., a Border Patrol camera operator spotted a group of five suspected undocumented migrants scaling the International Border Barrier, approximately 3.5 miles west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The camera operator broadcasted the information via radio to Border Patrol agents in the area. An agent arrived on the north side of the secondary barrier a short time later, as some of the migrants were descending from the barrier. The agent observed one migrant, later identified as a male citizen of Mexico, fall off the secondary barrier.
