U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Erik J. Skelton passed away on August 24, 2021. The circumstances of his passing were reviewed by an executive panel and the CBP Commissioner who agreed that this death occurred in the line of duty. CBPO Skelton will be remembered for his diligent service to the nation and for his bravery in the face of danger.
Officer Skelton began his federal career with the Transportation Security Administration on December 27, 2015 at Denver International Airport. He then joined U.S. Customs and Border Protection on May 30, 2017 and was assigned to the Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team within the Tactical Operations Division at Miami International Airport where he played an integral role in enforcement actions.
Officer Skelton was a native of Lakewood, Colorado, and moved to the Miami area in 2017 when he joined CBP. He is survived by his wife, his parents and three sisters.
