Border Patrol seizes over 1 ton of marijuana in separate incidents in the Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas – In the early morning hours of Friday, March 30, a Border Patrol K9 at the Falfurrias Checkpoint, alerted to a tractor-trailer driven by a United States citizen. The vehicle was referred to the secondary inspection area where agents opened the trailer and discovered a total of 47 bundles of marijuana mixed amongst pallets of cargo. The driver was subsequently arrested.

The marijuana weighed more than 1,300 pounds with an estimated street value over $1M.

On Sunday, April 1, Rio Grande City agents observed a white Toyota Sequoia leaving the river area at a high rate of speed near La Rosita, Texas. As agents responded, they observed the vehicle turn around and head back toward the Rio Grande. Agents located the vehicle abandoned with 11 bundles and 7 bricks of marijuana inside.

The marijuana weighed nearly 900 pounds and had an estimated value of S709K.

The marijuana will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
