YUMA, Ariz. – Wellton Station agents assisted a motorist who was having a medical emergency as he arrived at the Interstate 8 Immigration Checkpoint Friday afternoon.
Last Friday at approximately 1:15 p.m., a 52-year-old Yuma resident arrived at the Interstate 8 Immigration Checkpoint in a conscious but noticeably unresponsive state. A Border Patrol canine handler working at the checkpoint, who is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician, provided immediate emergency medical care.
Emergency Medical Services responded to the checkpoint after agents called for assistance. Paramedics determined that the man was in hyperglycemic shock. He was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further medical care.
