SANDERSON, Texas – Every year the Sanderson Border Patrol Station participates in the Feds Feed Families campaign, which is a nationwide Federal employee food drive that contributes to communities through the donation of food to local food banks. Last year, federal employees donated more than 10.4 million pounds of food. This year’s drive was titled “Feds Unite Against Hunger”.
Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Timothy L. Miller has coordinated this event for many years for the Sanderson Station. When asked why this campaign is important to him, SBPA Miller replied, “It is important to me because in the day and age we live in, no one should have to live with the feeling of not knowing how, where, or if their next meal will be coming. No one should have to experience that.”
Through Miller’s encouragement and leadership, Sanderson Border Patrol agents have tripled their donations over the past three years. This year agents collected a total of 1,066 pounds of food items that were donated to the Terrell County Food Pantry in Sanderson. Sanderson Station Patrol Agent in Charge Thaddeus Cleveland stated, “SBPA Miller shines at everything he does. This year’s contributions were well beyond what I thought we would raise. It’s a reflection of the commitment to the community of Sanderson that the agents have.”
Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents operate four Immigration Checkpoints and patrol 517 miles of the southwest border between Sierra Blanca and Sanderson, Texas.
