Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol seizes over 2,000 pounds of Marijuana over Labor Day Weekend

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley stopped several narcotic smuggling attempts over the Labor Day weekend.

On Sunday, Weslaco agents patrolling along the Rio Grande detected an illegal entry into the United States south of Alamo, Texas. Agents followed the tracks of the illegal border crossers into a sugar cane field. Inside, agents located five bundles of marijuana and four illegal aliens. The marijuana weighed over 215 pounds, worth an estimated $173K.

On Monday, Rio Grande City agents observed several subjects carrying bundles of marijuana near Fronton, Texas. Agents responded to the area and observed the subjects drop the bundles and return to Mexico. A search of the area resulted in the discovery of 15 bundles of marijuana weighing over 1,200 pounds, worth nearly $1M.

Throughout the Labor Day Weekend, agents interrupted 15 narcotic smuggling attempts, resulting in the seizure of over 2,000 pounds of marijuana.
