CBP Seizes 37 Pounds of Diverse Narcotics inside several Parcels

AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers seized 37 pounds (17 kilos) of various narcotics found inside various parcels that arrived at the Rafael Hernandez International Airport (BQN).    

“Smugglers seek very creative ways to conceal narcotics,” stated Roberto Vaquero, Assistant Director of Field Operations for Border Security in Puerto Rico and he US Virgin Islands. “Nonetheless, our officers are steadfast in detecting and seizing these drugs.”  

On Sep. 25, CBP Officers selected various courier parcels for intrusive inspection.  A CBP canine alerted to two parcels, one manifested as “Health Supplements” with a $100 customs value, and another declared as “clothing” with $1 customs value.

One parcel contained plastic bags with several hundreds of capsules, which field-tested yielding positive results to the properties of diazepam and opiates. The other packet had bags containing what appeared to be soaked tobacco leaves. The leaves were field tested yielding positive results to the properties of cocaine, amphetamines, and opiates.
