FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Port Everglades and local law enforcement partners helped save the life of a cruise ship passenger suffering from an apparent heart attack.

CBP officers and Broward Sheriff's Office deputies immediately began rendering aid after finding the disembarking cruise ship passenger unresponsive without a pulse last Friday.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies and CBP officers administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and used the port's Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to resuscitate the ailing man.
A doctor from the cruise ship and emergency responders arrived to continue first aid and transferred the passenger to a local hospital.
"Highly-trained CBP personnel and local law enforcement partners jumped in to save this man's life, said Port Everglades Port Director Dylan DeFrancisci. "The synergy between the Broward Sheriff's Office and Field Ops at Port Everglades is truly remarkable. I am proud of the lifesaving dedication of these CBP heroes and our Broward County Sheriff counterparts.”
