SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers arrested a Brazilian alien Friday attempting to board a flight from the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport bound to Miami.
Adelcio Geraldo Guimaraes, a citizen of Brazil, appeared today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Camille Velez-Rive, charged with a violation to Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326, for reentry after a previous removal.
On Sept. 7, during pre-boarding inspections authorized by US law, Mr.Guimaraes presented to CBP Officers a Brazilian Passport, claimed to be a citizen and national of Brazil and to be illegally present in the United States.
A secondary inspection revealed that Mr. Guimaraes made another reservation to fly from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Panama City, Panama. Further inspection and investigation revealed a March 2005 apprehension by U.S. Border Patrol near Rio Grande, TX, and again in 2017 by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Boston, Massachusetts. He was removed in December 2017.
Assistant US Attorney Evelyn Canals will be in charge of the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Puerto Rico.
If convicted, Mr. Guimaraes faces imprisonment for not more than 2 years, or a fine, or both.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
