On January 27, 2024, the Office of Human Resources Management (HRM) hosted its first CBP Family Outreach Event (FOE) of 2024 at Vizcaya Park in Miramar, Florida for CBP employees and their family members.

HRM is committed to bringing CBP's programs and services directly to our employees. Although headquartered in Washington, D.C., HRM wants every CBP employee across the country to feel valued and supported. CBP family members are also a very important part of our mission— without them, our employees can't successfully do their jobs.

"Today is all about you and your families! Our goals today are simple - to help and to listen. We know your work doesn't always allow you to sit behind a computer and read about all the resources we are offering. That's why it's important for us to bring these services directly to you and your families."

For this event, Assistant Commissioner Andrea Bright, HRM, was joined by local leadership, including Director of Field Operations (DFO) Carlos Martel, Acting Chief Patrol Agent Samuel Briggs II, and Director Rudy Maldonado to kickoff the event. An Office of Field Operations (OFO) employee sang a lovely rendition of the national anthem while CBP's honor guard presented the colors.

HRM’s outreach events have various elements to appeal to and educate our CBP community: a resource fair, a health fair, workshops, displays and demonstrations, and a kid zone. This particular event was no exception and had an abundant program to kickoff 2024.

Resource Fair

Our employees not only want this information but need it. The engaging resource fair featured several CBP programs like Family Support, Workers' Compensation, Survivor Advocacy, Retirement, Benefits, HealthierCBP, Chaplains and Peer Support, CBP Safety, Communication, Employee Assistance Program, Domestic Violence, Substance Misuse, Recruitment, Medical Fitness, and Training and Development.

Health Fair

There is a network of health resources available outside of CBP in the local area. HRM invites those resources in to collaborate with us for events such as this event’s health fair, which included the Broward County Department of Health, local gyms, chiropractic care, a life coach, various health insurance providers, and an acupuncture specialist.

Workshops

While the experts are onsite, HRM takes this opportunity to dive deeper into hot topics. The Retirement and Benefits Advisory Services Branch hosted several well-attended retirement and Thrift Savings Plan workshops throughout the day to share information.

Displays and Demonstrations

Our mission is vast and empowers. The unit displays and demonstrations are always popular, including K-9s (agriculture and narcotic), an Information and Communication Technology Team, a drone, riot gear, a United States Border Patrol (USBP) marine vessel, and an ATV.

Kid Zone

HRM never forgets about the kids! There were many activities for them, including a moon bounce, sack races, face painting, and corn hole. The master of ceremonies and DJ infused high energy into the event all day long. Additionally, the CBP Explorers were a tremendous help throughout the day and will make fantastic CBP employees one day.

It was a beautiful day for a CBP Family Outreach Event—informative, interactive, and fun for the whole family.

Our next Family Outreach event will be on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Puerto Rico. Visit our Family Outreach page if interested in learning more or hosting a future Family Outreach Event.
