Border Barrier at Morelos Dam – Yuma County – October 2022

CBP is constructing barrier in four gaps in the secondary border barrier near Morelos Dam in Yuma County, Arizona, within U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) Yuma Sector.  On July 22, 2022, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas authorized CBP to move forward with this project to address life and safety concerns in accordance with the Department’s plan for the use of border barrier funds.

The project involves the closure of four gaps within the existing secondary barrier along the Colorado River to improve the USBP’s operational efficiency.  The approximate width of the four gaps is as follows: 300 feet wide (Gap 1), 1,350 feet wide (Gap 2), and 50 feet wide (Gaps 3 and 4).  The gaps will be filled using a combination of barrier and mechanized bollard vehicle gates that allow for access to the riverside of the barrier.  The project area is located on federal land that was previously disturbed by other construction activities.

Construction could start in early 2023.  Comments or questions can be emailed to CBP at YumaComments@cbp.dhs.gov.
