DEL RIO, TEXAS – On July 26, 2020, at approximately 6:20 a.m., U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector, Brackettville Station observed a suspicious vehicle in the area and attempted to initiate a vehicle stop.  The driver then attempted to elude agents by fleeing at a high rate of speed north bound from Brackettville toward Uvalde.

Agents ultimately lost sight of the vehicle and it was located a short time later on Ranch Road 674, where it had rolled over.

Agents arrived on scene and discovered several injured persons. They rendered aid to the occupants until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services and the Kinney County Sheriff’s Department. The motor vehicle accident resulted in fatalities and serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, but was later apprehended. At this time, the U.S. Border Patrol is cooperating with the active investigation, which is being led by the Texas Department of Public Safety.  The incident is also under review by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility.
