ST. CROIX, U.S. VIGIN ISLANDS—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in the U.S. Virgin Islands identified a man with two outstanding warrants for probation violation and contempt of court from Denver, Colo. William Richmond, 35, a citizen of the United States, was identified after he presented himself for CBP inspection at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix, before boarding an American Airlines flight bound to Miami, with Denver as the final destination.

Law enforcement databases alerted to an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

"Customs and Border Protection is committed to securing our borders while at the same time cooperating with other law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of U.S. laws," stated Area Port Director for the United States Virgin Islands Louis Harrigan. "CBP officers will ensure that individuals that have transgressed the criminal justice system and are encountered at our borders are identified and detained."

CBP officers in St. Croix contacted CBP officers in Miami, and made arrangements to meet the subject planeside upon his arrival at Miami. The officers confirmed Richmond's identity and verified the outstanding warrant. Miami Dade Police Department was contacted, responded and took custody of the subject, pending extradition to Denver.

CBP officers detect many individuals wanted by authorities in the continental U.S., upon their arrival to the USVI, or upon their return to the mainland from Puerto Rico and the USVI.
