TUCSON, Ariz. – Nogales Border Patrol Station agents assigned to the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint arrested four people and seized a vehicle Saturday afternoon after the driver ignored agents’ instructions to pull over for a secondary inspection and fled the checkpoint.

Agents referred a silver Chevrolet Impala with three visible occupants for an additional inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. As agents were directing the vehicle to the secondary inspection area, the driver abruptly turned and continued north on the Interstate. Agents pursued the vehicle, which stopped north of the checkpoint, and found one undocumented adult male Mexican national hiding in the trunk.

Agents arrested the driver and two passengers, all adult U.S. citizens, for human smuggling.

The Mexican national found in the trunk was arrested for immigration violations and will be processed in accordance with Tucson sector guidelines.
