Over 5,000 Drug Paraphernalia Items Seized by CBP Officers in Chicago

CHICAGO–U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Chicago recently seized shipments that contained glass pipes used for smoking marijuana and vape devices for smoking wax marijuana.paraphernalia

On December 13, CBP officer seized 11 shipments arriving from Hong Kong. CBP officers inspected the parcels to determine the admissibility of its contents in accordance with CBP regulations. When officers opened the shipments they found Lookah Wax vaping kits, 1,560 “Seahorse Pro” and 450 “Snail” models with a domestic value of $47,130.

On December 7 CBP officers seized a shipment, arriving from Dubai. When officers opened the parcel they found 3,163 glass pipes used for smoking marijuana with a domestic value of $47,413. Both shipments were seized for unlawful importation of drug paraphernalia.

“While CBP’s number one mission is to prevent terrorism in our homeland, CBP Officers also work to keep narcotics and drug paraphernalia out of our communities,” said Shane Campbell, Area Port Director – Chicago. “Our officers take pride in continuing to prevent drug related items from entering our community.”

  CBP routinely conducts inspection operations on arriving and departing international flights and intercepts narcotics, weapons, currency, prohibited agriculture products, counterfeit goods, and other illicit items at our nation’s 328 international ports of entry.
