Eduardo Payan Selected as Chief Patrol Agent for U.S. Border Patrol’s Buffalo Sector

BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Border Patrol Chief Carla L. Provost has appointed Eduardo Payan as the new Chief Patrol Agent (CPA) for the Buffalo Sector following the promotion of Brian S. Hastings to Deputy Chief, Law Enforcement Operations at U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters. A 31 year veteran of U.S. Border Patrol, Eduardo Payan takes the helm for Buffalo Sector after most recently serving as the Deputy Chief Patrol Agent.

“My family and I have lived in the Buffalo, N.Y. community for more than eight years and I have been honored to serve them and safeguard our nation,” said Chief Eduardo Payan. “I will continue to partner with our community and law enforcement leaders in order to provide the best service to them.”

Chief Payan entered on duty in the San Diego Sector in 1987 upon graduation from the Border Patrol Academy. In 1997, he was promoted to Supervisory Border Patrol Agent in McAllen, Texas Sector and subsequently to Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge in 2005.

Chief Payan then began his Headquarters assignment as the Associate Chief, Enforcement and Information Technology Division, Washington, D.C. in 2006 and was then promoted again in 2008, as the Associate Chief, Analysis Branch, Washington, D.C. He then transferred to the Buffalo Sector in 2010 and served as Division Chief of Operations until 2012 where he was promoted to Deputy Chief Patrol Agent. Additionally, Chief Payan is a 2009 graduate of the Command Leadership Academy, Class IV.

Buffalo Sector is responsible for securing the water border between ports of entry in New York and Pennsylvania.  The assistance of citizens is invaluable to their border security mission and they welcome community members to help them keep our nation’s borders safe and report suspicious activity at 1-800-331-0353.
