Eagle Pass Border Patrol Agents Encounter Two Large Groups of Migrants in 12 Hours

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector’s Eagle Pass Station apprehended two large groups of migrants, shortly after they illegally entered the United States.

On May 4, at 11:50 p.m., 120 undocumented migrants were apprehended just after making illegal entry into the United States near Normandy. The group consisted of 120 migrants from eight different countries including 54 Cubans, 17 Colombians, 11 Venezuelans, one Chilean, two Ecuadorians, 12 Peruvians, one Syrian, and 22 Nicaraguans. A more extensive breakdown showed 68 single adult males, 27 single adult females, four unaccompanied children, and eight family units comprised of 11 adults and 10 children.

On May 5, at 11:30 a.m., 145 undocumented migrants were apprehended just after making illegal entry into the United States near Eagle Pass. The group consisted of 146 migrants from five different countries including 93 Cubans, 41 Colombians, seven Venezuelans, one Guatemalan, and three Nicaraguans. A full demographic breakdown showed 85 single adult males, 36 single adult females, one unaccompanied child, and eight family units comprised of 13 adults and 10 children.

All individuals were transported to the Eagle Pass Centralized Processing Center and processed in accordance with Customs and Border Protection policies.

Del Rio Sector continues to see an increase in migrant encounters, smuggling events and sex offender apprehensions. During the current fiscal year, beginning Oct. 1, 2021, through March 31, Del Rio Sector agents have encountered 195,289 migrants.
