BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo seized 530 lbs. of marijuana in commercial shipments manifested as Numerical Control Machines.

On August 6, CBP officers assigned to the Peace Bridge examined two separate commercial shipments that were manifested as Numerical Control Machines. A CBP K9 alerted to both shipments and a subsequent physical examination led to the discovery of metal cabinets that had been screwed shut. A further inspection of the cabinets was then conducted revealing numerous vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana was determined to be 530 lbs. with an estimated street value of more than $2 million dollars.

“Our CBP officers have remained enforcement-focused and have yet again disrupted criminal activity,” said Port Director Jennifer De La O. “The outstanding work of our frontline officers and K9 teams have been instrumental in the interdiction of narcotics ensuring these dangerous drugs never reach our communities.”

This seizure adds to the steady increase in drug seizures within the Buffalo Field Office. From October 1, 2019 through August 6, 2020, ports within the Buffalo Field Office, which covers 16 ports of entry throughout New York State, have made over 1,500 narcotic seizures totaling more than 24,000 pounds.
