CAMPO, Calif. — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a woman Friday morning who had 31 packages of methamphetamine concealed inside her vehicle’s gas tank.
On July 12, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the checkpoint on westbound Interstate 8 observed a red Honda Accord approach the checkpoint. After an initial questioning of the driver, the agent sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further examination.
While in secondary, a K-9 performed a sniff of the vehicle, resulting in an alert near the driver side quarter-panel and rear bumper. Agents searched and discovered 31 plastic wrapped bundles concealed inside the gas tank. The bundles contained 41.79 pounds of methamphetamine, which are valued at $96,117.

The driver, a 39-year-old U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
In fiscal year 2019, San Diego Sector has seized approximately 2,631 pounds of methamphetamine, which has an estimated street value of $6,052,841.
