Border Patrol agents working with other agencies stop a smuggling attempt on Highway 118 near Alpine, Texas.
“This foiled human smuggling event and the resulting arrests occurred as a result of the outstanding collaboration between our agents and their law enforcement partners,” said Big Bend Sector Chief Matthew J. Hudak. “We will continue to work together as a team to keep our communities safe by stopping criminal activity like this.”
On June 1, 2020, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Alpine Station along with the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations stopped two vehicles resulting in eight subjects illegally in the United States from Mexico being taken into custody. Additionally, three United States citizens were arrested for their involvement in the smuggling attempt.
During processing, one of the United States citizens was identified as a Tango Blast gang member.
The case remains under investigation.
Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents, patrol 517 miles of the southwest border, an area that extends from Sierra Blanca, Texas to Sanderson, Texas. The Alpine Station’s area of responsibility includes 157 miles of international border with the Republic of Mexico as well as the vast majority of the 6,193 square miles that comprise Brewster County, Texas. With current personnel resources, the primary station activity involves the continuous operation of two highway traffic checkpoints on Highway 118 and Highway 385.
