2025 TSP Contribution Limits

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced the contribution limits for 2025:
Limit Name 2025 2024
Elective Deferral Limit (IRC § 402(g)) $23,500 $23,000
Catch-up Contribution Limit (participants ages 50-59, and age 64 and over) (IRC § 414(v)) $7,500 $7,500
Catch-up Contribution Limit (participants ages 60, 61, 62, 63) (IRC § 414(v)) $11,250 n/a
Annual Additions Limit (IRC § 415(c)) $70,000 $69,000
  • Standard Employee Contribution Limit: The limit for employees under 50 years old will increase to $23,500 (up from $23,000 in 2024), an additional $500 in 2025 toward your TSP, allowing you to grow your retirement savings more quickly.
  • Catch-Up Contribution Limit: If you’re 50 or older, you’re eligible for catch-up contributions to your retirement savings above the standard limit to help accelerate retirement savings as you approach retirement age. In 2025, the standard catch-up contribution limit remains at $7,500. This means that if you are 50 and over, you can save a total of $31,000 in your TSP in 2025.
  • For those turning 60, 61, 62, or 63 in 2025: The SECURE Act 2.0, signed into law in 2022, has a special surprise for those turning age 60, 61, 62, or 63 in 2025. These individuals will be able to make a larger catch-up contribution of $11,250 into their TSPs, in addition to their regular contribution, for an extra retirement savings boost.

How to Enroll or Change Contributions

CBP employees may enroll in TSP or make contribution changes at any time. To start new contribution deductions on the first pay date in 2025, make your TSP election effective for pay period 25 of 2024 through pay period 24 of 2025.

To enroll in the TSP program or make contribution changes, use the Employee Personal Page. Once you gain access in myEPP, click on “TSP” then “Self-Service” and follow the instructions.

FERS employees should ensure contributions do not reach the IRS limit before the last pay date of the year to receive all matching contributions.

For assistance in calculating contribution amounts, use the TSP Calculator on the Contribution Limits page.
