Initial statement, attributable to U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

On December 17, 2020, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Border Patrol agents working observation duties witnessed five individuals crossing U.S. Highway 83 South.  Two of the individuals were struck by a civilian vehicle traveling on the highway.  Agents immediately rendered aid, requested Emergency Medical Services and the assistance of the Laredo Police Department.  Both individuals were taken to a local hospital for further medical treatment.  The Laredo Police Department is currently investigating the incident.

Statement update, 12/27/20: On Dec. 27, a 23-year-old female Guatemalan citizen, one of the two individuals struck by the civilian vehicle on Dec. 17, has been removed from life support and has passed away. The incident remains under investigation by Laredo Police Department.
