Human Smuggling Incident-Failure to Yield-Agent Involved Shooting

LORDSBURG, N.M. – Last night, Friday October 2, 2020, at approximately 9:50 p.m., a U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the Lordsburg Station encountered a vehicle involved in human smuggling.  The agent attempted a vehicle stop along Highway 80 and the driver of the vehicle failed to yield, assaulting the agent with the vehicle.  The agent reportedly discharged his service-issued weapon at the driver to stop the threat.  The driver absconded in the vehicle and is currently at large.  U.S. Border Patrol is working with local authorities to locate the fleeing suspect.  No reported injuries were sustained to our Border Patrol agent.  Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
