SWEETGRASS, Mont. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers arrested a male citizen of the United States at the port of Sweetgrass, Montana, on an assault warrant out of California.
On June 20, Daniel Safiq, 54, arrived from Canada in a commercial vehicle at the port of Sweetgrass. CBP officers discovered an extraditable warrant for Safiq in the National Crime Information Center database. Safiq was placed under arrest and turned over to Toole County Sheriff’s office.
“CBP officers using our database tools affected the arrest of this fugitive after confirming the warrant in the National Crime Information Center database. This wanted fugitive will face pending charges in California thanks to the outstanding vigilance of our frontline officers,” said Larry Overcast, Sweetgrass Port Director.
The National Crime Information Center is a centralized automated data base designed to share information among law enforcement agencies including outstanding warrants for a wide range of offenses. These warrants are for a wide range of offenses and include money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual abuse of children, violation of protection orders, fraud, failure to appear, larceny and military desertion.
