CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a man on Saturday convicted of a sexual offense.

The incident occurred at around 11:16 a.m., when Remote Video Surveillance System operators observed and notified agents in the area of a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately three miles west of the Calexico West Downtown Port of Entry.  Agents arrested the man and conducted an immigration and criminal history screening in the field before transporting him to the El Centro Station.

Records checks revealed that the man identified as Carlos Garcia-Serrano, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Honduras, had a conviction on September 11, 2011, for “Felony Sex with Minor: 3+ years younger” out of Los Angeles County.  The man was sentenced to three years confinement for his conviction.

Additionally, Garcia was previously ordered removed from the United States on January 25, 2007.

Garcia is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.

In fiscal year 2020, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed 35 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual offense charges after they entered the United States illegally.
