San Luis CBP Nab Smugglers with $132K in Methamphetamine

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a San Luis, Arizona woman and a Phoenix woman during separate weekend incidents involving attempts to smuggle a total of 44 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

Officers apprehended a 28-year-old Phoenix woman at the Port of San Luis on Jan. 24 after finding 27 packages of crystal meth in her vehicle’s gas tank. The drugs weighed nearly 38 pounds and have an estimated value exceeding $113,000.

A short time earlier, officers referred a 27-year-old San Luis woman for a further inspection of her Jeep SUV. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs within the back of the vehicle, officers removed six packages of meth from the rear cargo lift. The drugs weighed more than six pounds and have an estimated value of nearly $19,000.

Officers seized the drugs, worth more than $132,000, and vehicles, and turned both subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
