SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.—Border Patrol agents arrested a 23-year-old U.S. citizen on Sunday who had six illegal aliens inside his vehicle.

Agents observed a Chevrolet pickup truck on Interstate 5 at around 10:30 a.m.  They were approximately one-half mile south of the I-5 checkpoint when they initiated a stop on the vehicle.  The male driver had four passengers in his cab and two laying down in the bed of his truck, all males.  Agents conducted an immigration check on the driver and the six men.  Each passenger admitted to being a Mexican national illegally present in the United States.

The driver and passengers were taken into custody and transported to a nearby station.  The driver faces federal charges for human smuggling.  The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

To prevent the smuggling of humans, drugs, and contraband and to prevent criminal activity, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders.  To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
