SARITA, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector rescued two illegal immigrants from a speaker box located in the trunk of a car at the Sarita Border Patrol Checkpoint at around 4:45 p.m., Wednesday.
The rescue occurred when agents from the Kingsville Station encountered a woman, who is a United States citizen, driving a white sedan in the primary inspection lane. Following a service K-9 alert, the vehicle was referred to secondary inspection where agents discovered two illegal immigrants hiding inside a speaker box located in the trunk. Both were sweaty and one complained of dizziness from being inside the speaker box for more than one and a half hours. While inside the confined space, the pair would not have been able to exit by themselves in case of an emergency due to the trunk being locked. Both rescued individuals were offered medical attention but declined. They will be processed for removal. The case has been referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Office.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity, call the sector’s toll-free telephone number at 800-863-9382.
