EDINBURG, Texas – Two illegal aliens nearly succumb to the harsh terrain of the Rio Grande Valley.
Yesterday afternoon, a Brooks County 911 dispatcher contacted the Falfurrias station and advised them of a call they received from a man who was lost near Encino, Texas. The dispatcher reported the caller had run out of water and needed assistance. With the information provided, agents responded to the suspected location. An hour later, agents found the Mexican national and transported him to the station where he was evaluated by on-site medical staff.
A few hours later, the La Joya Police Department contacted the McAllen station after they received a call for help on the 911 emergency line from a man claiming he was lost. Agents in the area responded to the last known location provided by the police department and, after a brief search, they successfully located the Honduran national. Agents offered the man medical attention, but he declined.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
