Rio Grande City Port of Entry Seize $29K in Prohibited Hog Plums at Starr Camargo International Bridge

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists at the Starr-Camargo International Bridge intercepted a load of prohibited fruits co-mingled within a commercial shipment of tomatillo destined for the United States.

“This seizure is a great example of our agency’s versatility and demonstrates our port’s commitment to protecting our nation’s agriculture industry,” said Port Director Imelda Recio, Rio Grande City Port of Entry.

The seizure took place on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Starr Camargo International Bridge when a commercial shipment with produce applied for entry into the United States. The commercial vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  In secondary, CBP agriculture specialists conducted an intensive inspection on the contents of the shipment and discovered 66 crates which contained a total of 2,328 pounds of prohibited hog plums.

The estimated street value of the prohibited hog plums seizure is $29,106.

CBP agriculture specialists seized the prohibited fruit, a penalty was assessed, and the commercial shipment was denied entry into the United States.
