SULLIVAN CITY, Texas – Agents from the Office of Air and Marine (OAM) rescued a mother and her 2-year-old daughter Monday evening.
The rescue occurred when agents assigned to OAM in McAllen received a request for assistance to search for a family near Sullivan City. Upon arrival, the aircrew spotted a woman and young girl on the United States side of the river near the water’s edge. The OAM agents attempted to direct Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents on the ground to the location, however, recent rains had made the area impassable by both vehicle and foot traffic.
The woman had become mired in the mud as darkness was approaching. With Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents providing security, the aircrew landed, and freed the woman and child from the mud. They transported them to a Border Patrol agent nearby for processing. No medical attention was required.
