Del Rio Border Patrol Arrests 5 Sex Offenders in Past Month

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector area of operations apprehended five convicted sex offenders within the past month.

On Sept. 9, at approximately 12:30 a.m., agents from the Del Rio Station, patrolling near Pecan Road arrested Jose Beltran-Morales, 29, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing it was discovered that Beltran-Morales is wanted for probation violation pertaining to his conviction of sexual assault of a child out of Perryton in 2006. Beltran-Morales was deported from the United States, at Presidio, on May 12, 2006, shortly after his conviction.

On Aug. 28 at approximately 1:30 p.m., agents patrolling near Eagle Pass arrested Carlos Aroldo Oliva-Villanueva, 25, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras. During processing, agents found that Oliva-Villanueva is a registered sex offender, convicted in 2007 for a sex offense in Montgomery, Maryland, and sentenced to five years confinement. He was subsequently deported, on Nov. 16, 2012, to his native country of Honduras.

On Aug. 25 at approximately 9 a.m., agents patrolling near the Eagle Pass Port of Entry apprehended an undocumented immigrant. During processing, record checks revealed that the subject, identified as Juan Antonio Mercado-Gonzalez, 49, from Mexico, is a registered sex offender. Mercado-Gonzalez was convicted in 2004 in Lancaster, Calif., for child molestation. Mercado-Gonzalez has multiple deportations dating back to Oct. 17, 1997.

On Aug. 18 at approximately 8 a.m., agents patrolling near Hopedale Loop in Eagle Pass apprehended two undocumented immigrants. During processing, record checks revealed that one subject, identified as Donaldo Enrique Varela-Varela, 50, from Honduras, is a registered sex offender. Varela-Varela was convicted in 2007 by the Circuit Court of Champaign County, in Champaign, Illinois, for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and sentenced to three years in prison. Varela-Varela was deported on March 27, 2008, to his native country of Honduras.

On Aug. 16 at approximately 8:40 a.m., agents patrolling near the town of Normandy arrested Jorge Gonzalez-Gutierrez, 53, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. During processing it was discovered that Rodriguez-Diaz is a registered sex offender, convicted of indecency with a child-sexual contact, in Longview. He was subsequently deported on Dec. 17, 1991, to his native country of Mexico.

All five subjects face charges of illegal re-entry  and their prior orders of removal will be reinstated.

For Fiscal Year 2014, which started on Oct. 1, 2013, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended a total of 31 convicted sex offenders. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
