DEL RIO, Texas U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Comstock Station seized a high-caliber assault rifle and nearly 2,000 rounds of ammunition on March 27.

“Preventing the illegal exportation of firearms is a key concern,” said Rodolfo Karisch, Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector Border Patrol. “Every weapon our agents seize helps to disrupt and degrade the business of transnational criminal organizations.”

Following a brief foot pursuit, agents apprehended two Mexican nationals. During a search of the area, agents found a Bushmaster rifle and approximately 2,000 rounds of 7.62-mm full metal jacket ammunition. The total value of the seizure was estimated at $2,550.

The case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
