DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Comstock Station seized a high-caliber assault rifle and nearly 2,000 rounds of ammunition on March 27.
“Preventing the illegal exportation of firearms is a key concern,” said Rodolfo Karisch, Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector Border Patrol. “Every weapon our agents seize helps to disrupt and degrade the business of transnational criminal organizations.”
On March 27, agents were following foot sign headed toward the Rio Grande River when they encountered five subjects. As agents approached the group, the subjects absconded. Following a brief foot pursuit, agents apprehended two Mexican nationals. During a search of the area, agents found a Bushmaster rifle and approximately 2,000 rounds of 7.62-mm full metal jacket ammunition. The total value of the seizure was estimated at $2,550.
The case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
Del Rio Sector is an integral part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
