LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at Laredo Port of Entry intercepted hard narcotics worth over $400,000 while conducting enforcement operations.
“Border cities are key transit zones for drug trafficking organizations,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Targeted enforcement is utilized at the Laredo Port of Entry to prevent and disrupt the flow of deadly narcotics.”
The seizure occurred on Saturday, July 11th at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2009 Hyundai Sonata for a secondary inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 36-year-old female U.S. citizen traveling from Mexico. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, a total of 58.99 pounds of alleged cocaine were found concealed within the vehicle.
The narcotics have an estimated street value of $454,920.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and vehicle. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
