CBP Officers Intercept More Than $3.2 Million in Hard Narcotics Over the Weekend at the Laredo Port of Entry

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers maintained their vigilance and intercepted cocaine and methamphetamine with a combined estimated street value exceeding $3.2 million in three separate enforcement operations over the weekend.

“Our CBP officers’ experience and vigilance was a key component in these significant narcotics interceptions,” said Acting Port Director Andrew Douglas, Laredo Port of Entry. “I thank our CBP officers for their hard work and commitment in keeping our borders secure.”

The first seizure took place on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the World Trade Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 1986 GMC Sierra for a secondary inspection. Upon a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, a total of 174 pounds of alleged crystal methamphetamine were discovered within the shipment.

A second seizure occurred on Friday, Oct. 9, also at the World Trade Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2012 Ford F-350 for a secondary inspection. CBP officers utilized a non-intrusive imaging system and a canine inspection and discovered a total of 15 packages containing 37 pounds of alleged cocaine within the vehicle.

The third seizure also occurred on Friday at the World Trade Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2011 Kenworth tractor driven by a 38-year-old male Mexican citizen for a secondary inspection. Upon a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, a total of 30 packages containing 74 pounds of alleged cocaine were discovered within the tractor.

The narcotics combined have an estimated street value of $3,293,205.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicles. The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
