ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Heart Island port of entry discovered narcotics on two United States citizens who were operating a rented boat.

On Sunday, CBP officers encountered a 34-year-old male and a 23-year-old female who were traveling together in a rented boat after they docked at the Heart Island port of entry. CBP officers approached the boaters in order to determine if the subjects were arriving from Canada. During their conversation, officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the boat and subsequently were granted permission to perform a search of their items.

During the search, a backpack was discovered containing approximately 200 grams of marijuana, more than 80 grams of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) oil, and 9 methylenedioxy - methamphetamine (MDMA) pills which are commonly referred to as Ecstasy. Additionally, 14 Adderall pills and an amount of hashish butter were also discovered. Both travelers were then taken to the Alexandria Bay port of entry and processed.

“Heart Island is usually a tourist destination but this year, with restricted travel in place, our officers continue to perform their jobs, verify who is arriving and from where,” said Port Director Timothy Walker. “Our officers were able to discover these illicit narcotics and take them out of our community.”

After processing, both subjects and all the narcotics were turned over to the New York State Police to face charges.
