Release Date
Fri, 05/15/2020

CHIEF MOUNTAIN, Mont. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations Area Port of Sweetgrass announces the delay of the opening of the seasonal port of Chief Mountain due to current travel restrictions as a result of COVID-19.

Normally, Chief Mountain, which connect Glacier National Park in Montana to Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in Alberta, Canada, opens for the summer season on May 15.  This year, the seasonal opening of the port will be delayed until further notice.

During the current travel restrictions, passenger traffic which has been determined to be “essential” may enter the United States from Canada through the port of Piegan, Montana, which is located east of Chief Mountain.  Piegan is operating under temporary reduced hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days per week.
