CINCINNATI– Sri Lankan chocolatiers have come up with some great chocolate candies and desserts, but recently a shipment headed to Sri Lanka was definitely going to add a little kick to your hot chocolate.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers at an Express Consignment Operations hub in Cincinnati inspected a shipment from California containing cans of hot chocolate on May 12.
The shipment was selected because of the level of experience of officers and x-ray inconsistencies. Additionally, a drug detector canine alerted to the package. The parcel contained four cans and a bag of marshmallows. Each can was opened and at the bottom of the cans were two chunky wraps of tinfoil. In the tinfoil, was a plastic bag containing a leafy substance, which tested positive for marijuana. Almost five pounds of marijuana was seized.
“Our officers are committed to keep our country and communities safe from illegal and dangerous drugs,” said CBP’s Acting Area Port Director Eugene Matho. “This seizure is one example of the quality enforcement work they do on a daily basis.”
The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity to 800-863-9382
