TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended a previously removed sex offender near Naco, Arizona, Tuesday morning.
Tucson Sector agents patrolling southern Cochise County arrested 31-year-old Luis Gomez-Coronel, a Mexican national, around noon after he illegally entered the country through the desert west of Naco.
During records checks, agents learned Gomez was convicted of Sexual Battery in Johnson County, Indiana, in March 2009 and sentenced to 949 days in prison. He was removed from the United States one month later.
Gomez remains in custody, charged for reentry of a removed aggravated felon.
All people apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.
