Border Patrol Apprehends 8 Smugglers, Seizes $362,700 Worth of Marijuana

WELLTON, Ariz. — Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested eight smugglers and seized just over 725 pounds of marijuana during weekend operations.

Saturday, Wellton Station agents patrolling near Gila Bend encountered an abandoned pickup truck containing 20 marijuana bundles weighing nearly 459 pounds located in the bed and interior of the vehicle.  Agents transported the marijuana, valued at an estimated $229,400, and truck to Wellton Station for processing as per Yuma Sector guidelines.

Sunday, agents assigned near Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge tracked and located eight subjects with six bundles of marijuana weighing more than 266 pounds and worth an estimated $133,300. Agents turned the smugglers and marijuana over to the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force.
