Border Patrol Agents Seize Dangerous Narcotics in Two Separate Events

CALEXICO, Calif. El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seize dangerous narcotics in two separate events.

The first incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 1:45 a.m., when a Border Patrol Agent was traveling westbound on Highway 98 near Mt. Signal Road and noticed a burgundy 1998 F150 driving at a slow rate of speed and swerving in and out of the lane. The agent decided to investigate and performed a vehicle stop.  The agent approached the driver, conducted an immigration check and identified the driver as a 23-year-old woman from Mexico illegally present in the United States. During questioning, the agent noticed in plain view an open backpack that contained a bundle wrapped in tape.  The agent secured the driver and requested a canine detection team.  The canine alerted to the bundle, agents seized the bundle and transported to the narcotics and driver to the El Centro Station for further processing. 

At the station, the narcotics tested positive for methamphetamine with a weight of 264 grams and an estimated street value of $1,105.

Agents searched the vehicle and discovered multiple small packages, two syringes filled with fluid and glass pipes hidden inside the vehicle.  The driver, the vehicle and narcotics remain under federal custody pending prosecution. 

The second incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 11:40 p.m., when a man driving a black Mercedes sedan along with two passengers approached the Highway S-2 Checkpoint.  A canine detection team alerted to the vehicle and the vehicle was set aside for further investigation.  Agents searched the vehicle and discovered multiple small packages, two syringes filled with fluid and glass pipes hidden inside the vehicle.  The subjects, the vehicle and narcotics were seized and transported to the El Centro Station for further processing.  

At the station, the contents inside the packages tested positive for methamphetamine, with a weight of 239 grams, and an estimated street value of $1,000.  The fluid in both syringes tested positive for heroin with an estimated street value of $560.

The subjects, all United States citizens, the vehicle and narcotics remain under federal custody pending prosecution.
