DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station apprehended a subject previously convicted of Manslaughter with a Deadly Weapon on Wednesday.

Agents from the Carrizo Springs Station patrolling near the international border apprehended 16 undocumented immigrants. During processing, it was learned through record checks that one subject, Orlando Huelches-Lopez, 35, a Guatemalan national, had been charged and convicted in 2001 for Manslaughter with a Deadly Weapon in Jefferson County, Texas, and sentenced to 15 years in prison. At the completion of his sentence, Huelches-Lopez was deported to his native country of Guatemala on Jan. 22, 2014.

Orlando Huelches-Lopez is being charged with 8 USC 1326 – Reentry after Deportation – and his prior order of removal will be reinstated. Huelches-Lopez will be deported to Guatemala following criminal proceedings.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
