EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents in Eagle Pass arrested a convicted sex offender, June 1.
“I commend our agents for continuing to protect our borders and communities in the midst of the ongoing pandemic and national crises,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Doyle E. Amidon, Jr. “Our agents’ focus and dedication prevented this felon from reaching the interior of the country and potentially inflicting more harm.”
Agents performing line watch operations in Eagle Pass apprehended Carlos Diaz-Salas, 42, a citizen of Mexico, after he illegally entered the United States. During processing, records checks revealed that he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2004, and sentenced to two years’ incarceration in Nacogdoches, Texas. Diaz-Salas also has prior arrests for bail jumping and failure to appear.
Diaz-Salas has been removed from the United States on seven different occasions, most recently in June of 2006 when he was deported to Mexico.
As a convicted felon, he faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
All individuals apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks utilizing multiple databases including the use of biometrics to ensure those with criminal history are positively identified regardless of their immigration status.
