Agents Seize $1.3 Million Worth of Marijuana in First Weekend of 2015

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Multiple seizures netted Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents marijuana valued at more than $1.3 million and several arrests in the first weekend of 2015.

817 pounds of marijuana abandoned by smugglers

More than 800 pounds of marijuana abandoned by smugglers

The largest seizure occurred near Rio Grande City when smugglers abandoned 817 pounds of marijuana as agents approached. In addition to the narcotics, several subjects were arrested. The most significant being three subjects arrested along with 472 pounds of marijuana.

In total, agents seized more than 1,700 pounds marijuana over the weekend. The marijuana and arrested subjects were transported to the Rio Grande City Station for processing.
