TUCSON, Ariz. - A Mexican national woman was arrested Tuesday for attempting to smuggle six pounds of heroin, valued in excess of $86,000, through the Port of Nogales.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing selected Eduwiges Valdez-Castro, 45, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for further inspection of her Mitsubishi SUV. When officers searched the woman, they removed three packages of heroin from within a girdle she was wearing.

The vehicle and drugs were processed for seizure. Valdez was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
