Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize 1,200 Pounds of Marijuana Worth More Than $1 Million

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Del Rio Sector seized more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $1 million in four different incidents, in recent weeks.

On Dec. 6 at approximately 2 p.m., agents from the Comstock Station, conducting linewatch operations, responded to a report of suspicious activity near Langtry. As an agent neared the area eight individuals ran and absconded to Mexico.  The agent inspected the area and discovered eight duffel bags containing 457 pounds of marijuana, valued at an estimated $365,703.  The marijuana was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Dec. 6 at approximately 6 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations, were informed by a local resident of suspicious sacks he encountered.  Agents responded to the report and discovered three feed sacks containing 205 pounds of marijuana, valued at an estimated $164,000. DEA agents took custody of the marijuana.

On Dec. 9 at approximately 4 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass South Station conducting linewatch operations in an area known for narcotic smuggling, discovered three military style duffel bags containing 157 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $126,152. The narcotics were turned over to DEA.

On Dec. 18 at approximately 7 p.m., agents from the Eagle Pass Station, conducting linewatch operations, observed five individuals walking away from the Rio Grande River carrying large bundles.  As the agent approached the individuals they dropped the bundles, ran and absconded to Mexico. The agents seized five large bundles containing 452 pounds of marijuana, valued at an estimated $361,608.  The narcotics were turned over to the DEA.

For Fiscal Year 2015, the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector has seized more than $4.5 million worth of narcotics. The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
