to teenager after being rescued Friday.

OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector saved 10 illegal aliens in distress in the Jacumba Wilderness region in four separate rescue events over the weekend.

The first incident occurred Friday, when El Centro Station agents apprehended a group of six illegal aliens in distress.  The illegal aliens were first observed walking north in the desert south of Ocotillo by a camera operator in El Centro Station's Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) room.  Agents near the area responded and apprehended the illegal aliens.  Agents requested assistance from an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) after immediately noticed that one of them, a 14-year-old female, was showing symptoms of dehydration and severe heat exhaustion.  All Border Patrol agents are trained first responders or EMTs.

A Border Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agent working near the area responded to assist.   BORSTAR agents, who are either national certified EMTs or paramedics, medically evaluated the ailing teen and began to treat her for her symptoms.  The teen was cooled down with ice packs and an intravenous bolus of normal saline was administered.  After the treatment, the BORSTAR agent determined that the teen and the other illegal aliens did not require any further medical attention.

The teenager, as well as the other five illegal aliens from Mexico, were transported to a rally point for processing where agents conducted a criminal background investigation and further medical screening.  They all were expelled back to their country of origin immediately after they cleared the screening process.

The second incident occurred Friday at approximately 6:35 p.m., when El Centro Sector Radio Communications (Dispatch) was contact by the Centro de Control, Comando, Comunicación, y Cómputo (C-4) of Mexicali Baja California, with information of a distress call made by a pair of Mexican nationals.  The individuals stated they were lost, out of water and scared to die due to the extreme heat.  The information along with GPS coordinates was relayed to El Centro Station agents performing their assigned duties in the area and they responded to the location to begin searching for the illegal aliens.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., agents located a pair of illegal aliens.  Agents confirmed it was they who made the distress call.  Agents gave them cold water and determined that they did not require any medical attention.

The two men, both illegal aliens from Mexico, were transported to a rally point for processing where agents conducted a criminal background investigation and further medical screening.  They were both expelled back to their country of origin immediately after they cleared the screening process.

The third incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 1:08 a.m., when Dispatch was notified by California Highway Patrol (CHP) Communications of a distress call made by a pair of illegal aliens. The illegal aliens stated they were lost and out of water.  They also provided a description of the surrounding area.  The information was relayed to El Centro Station agents performing their assigned duties in the area and they responded to the location that best fit the description given to begin searching for the pair.

At approximately 1:17 a.m., RVSS operators spotted two individuals walking north on Davies Road, south of Highway 98 in Ocotillo.  At approximately 1:30 a.m., agents made contact and confirmed they were the ones that made the 9-1-1 emergency call.  Agents provided cold water and determined they did not require medical attention.

The two men, both illegal aliens from Mexico, were transported to a rally point for processing where agents conducted a criminal background investigation and further medical screening.  They were both expelled back to their country of origin immediately after they cleared the screening process.
