Agents Halt Human Smuggling Attempt in Dome Valley

YUMA, Ariz. – Wednesday morning (July 22), Border Patrol agents intercepted an attempt to smuggle illegal immigrants through Dome Valley in an effort to circumvent the Wellton Station Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8.  Agents arrested the driver, a 21-year-old male U.S. citizen, and seven illegal immigrant occupants.  The driver was transporting one juvenile male Mexican national, five adult male Mexican nationals, and one adult female El Salvadorian.

The driver is being prosecuted for alien smuggling.  All of the subjects and the vehicle were processed per Yuma Sector guidelines.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
