The Border Patrol Station in Warroad was established soon after 1924 and maintained a compliment of three agents until World War II. During this time the station was closed and replaced with stations opened in surrounding towns. These stations were deactivated in 1955 and the Warroad Station was again opened.

The Warroad area of operations contains an anomaly of land that is located above the 49th parallel of the Canada/United States border. It covers the northwestern portion of the state of Minnesota that includes approximately 9,234 square miles.

There is approximately 144 miles of international border separating the station from the provinces of Manitoba and Ontario.
